Dual Flush Toilets

Reduce volumes of water being flushed away

Dual flush toilets reduce the volume of water being flushed. This can have a significant effect on your buildings water consumption. Older toilets have cisterns of between 10 and 12 litres, where in fact only half of this water volume is ever necessary.

Modern toilets have more sensible cisterns of around 6 litres, and even this is unnecessarily wasteful for flushing liquids – you can save a lot of water by installing a dual-flush or multi-flush device to your buildings toilets. The dual flush device has two fixed settings – a light setting for urine and a heavier one for solids.

Useful Information

Reduces Water Consumption

A saving of up to 20% of your total water consumption is achievable.

Payback Period

If an entire toilet is replaced, the payback period could run into a number of years.

Displacement Containers

To reduce the flush volume without any new installations, you can put a displacement container in the cistern – try a 2 litre coke bottle filled with water or a heavy device that will not dissolve in water.

Spoiler title

Make sure your light setting flushes adequate water volume to clear the toilet bowl properly. If too little water is flushed, a second flush is required, wasting water unnecessarily.
